Gantry Winding Machine for the Manufacture of the 15 m-long Coils for the LHC Dipoles

The winding system consists of a moveable gantry on rails, on which a rotational winding table with a traction power-regulated drive is axially arranged. An automatic adjustment of the winding height permits the application of various coil forms. The machine is equipped with a CNC control and can be remote controlled.

The tiltable coil accommodation rail carries the reel core. An automatic conductor clamping system holds the superconductor in the desired position. The machine can be operated in 3 operating modes (automatic, manual, teaching mode).
