Reference Pilot Plant Oxyfuel

Babcock Noell supplied the flue gas desulphurization system for the pilot plant for the development of a carbon dioxide low power plant at “Schwarze Pumpe”, Germany.

In the carbon dioxide free power plants planned for the future the combustion is conducted with pure oxygen. After desulphurization with the flue gas desulphurization system supplied by Babcock Noell exhaust gas predominantly consists of carbon dioxide, that is supposed to be separated and stored to the most possible extend.

The FGD has to meet very high demands: with an inlet concentration of sulphur dioxide of 11,500 mg/m³ in dry standard reference conditions a separation efficiency of 99 percent has to be obtained.

The construction and the operation take place on the basis of a technology partnership with Vattenfall. Thus Babcock Noell ensures the necessary experiences in the construction of flue gas desulphurization systems in prospective large power plants on this technology basis.

The technical data of this plant are:

  • Boiler output: 30 MW
  • Fuel: lignite coal, hard coal
  • SO2 - inlet concentration: 11.500 mg/m³, i.N. dry
  • SO2 - removal 99%
  • CO2 - removal > 90 % - 9 t/h CO2
