Handling of Spent Fuel Elements

For the disposal of burned fuel elements in research reactors, Babcock Noell developed a system for the "dry" transfer from the reactor basin into the transport containers and manufactured and operated the system.

A substancial part of this technology is the shielding bell with integrated grip arm, lifting unit and shielding lid. According to the requirements, this unit is designed according to the highest reqirements of the nuclear design rules (KTA).

The entire system was used for the fuel element disposal of the research reactors VKTA, Rossendorf and Medical University Hanover.
