Flue Gas Desulphurization for Power Plants

For new power plants as well as for retrofits of existing boilers we are able to offer two wet Flue Gas Desulphurization systems and the semi-dry FGD systems.

The selection of an appropriate process for the respective application depends on different parameters:

  • Required SO2 removal

  • Where necessary SO3 and dust removal

  • Requirements for the residues

  • Available lime reagents / lime products

  • Quality of lime products

  • Site specific requirements

Overview - Flue Gas Desulphurization for Power Plants

Double Loop Absorber

The wet scrubbing process based on the double-loop absorber was realized between 1981-2001 through our predecessor company Noell-KRC Energy and Environmental Technology for power plants with a total of 19,000 MW.

In total, ca. 50 absorbers were installed, part of them stainless steel, lined with rubber or glass fibre reinforced plastic (FRP). These absorbers are today still a leading technology for SO2 removal and energy consumption and are relevant in the demand for CCS-ready facilities.

The choice of the best suited technology for the requested application depends on different parameters.

Features:

  • applicable for very high SO2 - raw gas values (> 7.000 mg/m³ SO2 - inflow)

  • very high SO2 - removal, clean gas value  < 30 mg/Nm³ SO2 (CCS ready)

  • very low energy consumption

  • very good gypsum quality as a marketable product

  • use of low-grade and coarse limestone is possible

  • very good flow distribution

  • combination with tray-technology

  • operational experience with all prevalent absorption materials such as CaCO3 und Ca(OH)2
