DeNOx Units for Power Plants

SCR - Process

The abatement of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2) is achieved by the use of a "Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system".

Injecting a reducing agent (NH4OH = NH3 + H2O) into the flue gas and passing the flue gas through the catalyst constitute the reduction of the nitrogen oxides on the SCR catalyst to produce elementary nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O).

The integration of a SCR-plant depends on different parameters:

  • Available spare

  • Temperature range and ~distribution of the flue gas

  • Composition of the flue gas

  • Required NOx - removal

Field of application:

  • Hard coal power plants

  • Oil- or gas fired plants

  • Refineries

  • Biofuel plants

  • Waste to energy plants

    • Municipal waste

    • Industrial waste

    • Refuse derived fuel

High-Dust Configuration

Characteristics:

  • No heating of flue gas necessary

  • Less duct work

  • Simple arrangement

  • Easy retrofit of existing plants

Low - Dust (Tail - End) Configuration

Characteristics:

  • Low dust concentrations

  • Heavy metals and other catalyst poisons reduced to a minimum

  • Smaller catalyst pitch

  • Lower catalyst volume

  • Longer catalyst life

  • Compact design
