Manipulators for Special Applications

The Telescoping Articulated Remote Manipulator (TARM) was designed and supplied by Babcock Noell for the fusion experiement JET (Joint European Torus).

The TARM is equipped with 38 degrees of freedom due to the extremely complex work environment in the JET fusion system. The remote control is done with a special control panel, connected with a hierarchically- graduated computer control (multi-processor system) for a multi-axis manipulator (Master-Slave) or automatic operation as multi-axle axis robot with 38 axes.

The TARM can be used both hanging from an industrial crane, as well as stationary on a scaffold.
