Prototype for a 600 A HTS Current Feed for the LHC
![]() | Current feed-throughs, consisting of ceramic high-temperature superconductors with a temperature range between 4 K and 50 K, are to be used in the LHC to decrease the heat loads. Through this process, one can take advantage of the low thermal conductivity of the material. The prototype was developed and manufactured together with ATZ, in Adelwitz. Customer: CERN, Geneva (Switzerland) Duration of Project: 1999 – 2000 |
Technical Execution:
| HTS | YbaCuO, thermally textured according to the CCG method embedded in stainless steel pipe |
| Normal Conducting Part | Copper with RRR approx. 30 |
| Mechanical Structure | Glass-fiber reinforced plastic, that simultaneously represents the electrical insulation |
