The Core Melt Stabilization System limits the consequences of a postulated accident by ensuring that the molten core, after its release from the Reactor Pressure Vessel, will be transferred into a safe condition.

The removable melt plug is connected to the support frame by locking bolts and is located in the center of the bottom of the reactor pit. In the case of a maintenance inspection the melt plug can be removed and transferred to a position in the spreading area by the remote controlled transport system
