Babcock Noell supplied several components for the (European Transonic Wind Tunnel) ETW:
the model carriage, a transporter for a load of up to approx. 200 t
lock gates with dimensions of 19 and 17 m and a weight of 27 t.
The so-called second throat, in which by means of trimming tabs the flow conditions can be optimised within milliseconds, work being done against a flow pressure of 10 t at a temperature of -180° C.
The inner casing of the compressor (total weight 88 t) had to be with lowest possible tolerances.
