Babcock Noell GmbH wins €100 m order for 8 catalytic denitrification plants (DeNOx) in Israel

Würzburg, 28 February 2011

The Würzburg-based Babcock Noell GmbH (BNG), a company of the Bilfinger Berger Power Services group, has won the contract for an order from Israel worth about 100 million euros against international competition. Hence, BNG has now become the market leader in the field of DeNOx flue gas cleaning in Israel.

The customer, Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), headquartered in Haifa and 99.85% owned by the state of Israel, is one of the major Israeli industrial enterprises. The company operates 17 power plants with a total capacity of about 11,700 MWel, the largest share of which is generated by coal-fueled power plants.

The order covers the whole engineering, procurement, supply and supervision of installation and commissioning of a total of 8 DeNOx Hight Dust units using the SCR process for 4 blocks generating 600 MWel. each at the two power plant sites in Orot Rabin, located between Haifa and Tel Aviv, and Rutenberg in the south of the country. IEC operates the two power plants with imported coal.

The environmental technologies order includes the whole constructional steel work, the flue gas canals, reactors, catalytic converters, the U2A units for producing ammoniac from urea, the pipeline systems, instruments, water bypass high-pressure systems, induced draft fans with electric drives as well as the EMSR technology.

In addition to the order value, optional further services have been negotitated. The completion period for the overall project is closely tied to the Israeli power requirements, and the project is expected to be completed with the final handover at the end of 2015.

Besides the order for the DeNOx unit for the ORL oil refinery in Haifa carried out by BNG in 2009, this is yet another strategic order in Israel in the sector of environment technologies.
